When you think of a graph, you probably imagine a big plus sign. That is known as the coordinate plane, because it has an X axis and a Y axis and the point where the X and Y meet is known as a coordinate, and sine the coordinate plane is flat, it is made up of all these points.

The coordinate plane is 2 dimensional plane. In this area, we can plot points, also we can draw lines and curves.

This plane is divided in 4 quadrants by 2 axis, called x axis and y axis. Y axis is perpendicular to x axis.

x and y axis are intercepting in the point called origin: O(0,0).

x axis is horizontal and all positive values can be found to the right of the origin point and all negative values can be found to the left of the origin point.

y axis is vertical and all positive values can be found above the origin point and all negative values can be found below the origin point.

1st quadrant is found above x axis and to the right of y axis.

2nd quadrant is found above x axis and to the left of y axis.

3rd quadrant is found below x axis and to the left of y axis.

4th quadrant is found below x axis and to the right of y axis.
