I am doing a comparision essay on Mary Shelley's frankenstein novel verses Kenneth Branagh's 2004 movie.

I think that if you have a task description of specific elements that have to be followed, it would be good to use those as a guideline as you prepare your essay.  If you are to do a straight forward compare and contrast writing sample, I would spend some time identifying where you find specific similarities between the book and the film.  It could start off very basic in terms of the presence of specific characters that are included in both and basic plot summaries of both.  In terms of the differences, this too can be approached in a very direct manner in terms of how the movie depicted characters as opposed to the book.  If you wanted to expand on this, I would think that the movie did not analyze the thematic concepts to the extent of the book.  One of Shelley's gems in the book was her critique on both Enlightenment ideals (pro- Science) and Romantic ideals (anti- Science.)  She was ahead of her time in finding the flaws in both and exploring them in the book.  I am not certain that the movie went in this direction, so analyzing this difference could be a thematic contrast between both.
