These two films differ in that Grizzly Man is a documentary and Into the Wild is a fictionalized version of a true story. Yet there are very similar elements to the lives and stories of these two men, and how they died. Chris seemed determined to move beyond what he thought was his ordinary, pedestrian life; whereas Timothy seemed less focused on himself and more focused upon the grizzly bears he loved to observe. Chris wanted to be apart from society, but Tim seemed more interested in being among the grizzlies. Both men were not bothered by a lack of contact with the world of humanity over extended periods of time, and both were determined to live in the wilderness. However, they both also underestimated the unpredictable and dangerous aspects of living in this way, which ultimately led to their demise.
