Joe Keller is a factory man who has worked hard all of his life for his family. As All My Sons by Arthur Miller begins, Joe is sixty years old. His son, Chris Keller, is thirty-two and a veteran of World War II. While Chris was fighting on the war front, his dad, Joe, was back home, working to create parts for military airplanes. So they both did their part, in different ways. But they have suffered.

Chris's older brother Larry has gone missing in action. It is believed that his plane crashed, but it was never found.

Joe Keller works at a plant that created airplane parts for the war effort—the plant sold cracked cylinder heads to the Air Force. Joe's former partner at the plant, neighbor Steve Deever, went to jail for this crime, but Joe was exonerated.

Now, everyone in the Keller family is painfully dealing with these tragedies. Kate Keller, Joe's wife, is in complete denial that Larry is dead. Joe placates her, but Chris does not want to do this any more. He wants to get married...
