Compare and contrast the revolutions in America (what became the US) and Latin America.

The major similarity between these two is that both were rebellions by Europeans (motivated by the ideas of the Enlightenment) against other Europeans.  In both cases, it was not colonized Native Americans who rebelled.  Instead, it was Europeans born in the Americas who felt that they should be treated as the equals of those born in Europe.

The major difference is that the American Revolution was much more of a democratic movement than the Latin American revolutions.  In Latin America, revolutions typically ended up creating governments run by authoritarian strongmen.  This was not true of North America, where the revolution led to the creation of a stable system that was very democratic for that time in history.
