Both Simon and Ralph are indeed good and moral characters. The main difference between them is that Simon is innately good and is not corrupted by the other boys and the island.

Simon is a character who remains good throughout the entire novel. He maintains a strong moral compass for himself and doesn't ever become a killing obsessed monster like most of the other boys. Additionally, Simon is someone that looks out for people that are weaker or smaller than him. For example, he helps the littluns pick the good fruit that they could not reach. He is also the one boy who gets Piggy's glasses after Jack punches Piggy. Simon also makes sure that Piggy gets his share of the meat. Simon's pure goodness is also perhaps what allows him to correctly identify that the evil on the island isn't a real beast: is the evil that exists within the human soul.

Simon is pure goodness, so the evil on the island doesn't taint him; however, it allows Simon to recognize it in other people. This is something that...
