Are the characters in Ender's Game realistic? What does this say about the way people are? What does it say about the way they should be?

Ender's Game by  Orson Scott Card is one of my favorite books, and yes, I believe the characters in the novel are realistic.  Who has not had an older brother bully you or a sister take your side?  Ender is the genius who is isolated to train him for a battle with the buggers who threaten Earth.  Yet, Ender has empathy and sympathy for the buggers which is the very something which helps his understanding and ultimate victory.  People do need to see the talents in each other and encourage them rather than make it a contest.  People should be helping each other and trying to understand the enemy so that we are not constantly at war.  We need to invest in our youth just as the country invested in Ender.  If we work together instead of always in competition, maybe more progress would be made in the world.
