HIPPOLYTA.  Engaged to Theseus. She appears to be resigned to the marriage, which is one of the central actions of the play, but she does not seem to be in love with Theseus.

TITANIA.  Queen of the fairies and married to Oberon. She has been arguing with her controlling husband, who orders Puck to put a solution in her eyes which will maker her fall in love with the first person she sees. It turns out to be Bottom, who has been transformed with the head of an ass.

PETER QUINCE.  A carpenter in Athens, he is also the amateurish playwright who writes the play for the wedding of Theseus and Hippolyta.

HERMIA.  Engaged to Demetrius, she falls in love with Lysander.

HELENA.  A childhood friend of Hermia, she falls in love with Demetrius.

LYSANDER.  He falls in love with Hermia.

DEMETRIUS.  Egeus has chosen Demetrius to marry his daughter, Hermia.

EGEUS.  The father of Hermia.

THESEUS.  The duke of Athens who is engaged to Hippolyta.
