A car of mass 600 kg is travelling at 10m/s. when the brakes are applied, it comes to rest in 10 m.what is the average force exerted by the brakes?

initial velocity u = 10 m/s

distance s= 10m

final velocity v=0    (car stop)

By equation of motion



`a=-100/20=-5 ` m/s^2 ( retardation )

Thus by Newton's second law of motion ,retarding force is

`F=600(-5)=-3000` N

Thus force break exert = 3000N.
