I think that finding exact dates will be a challenge because I am not certain one can find an exact date as to when the Berlin Wall fell, itself. There is considerable debate as to whether November 9, 1989 is the moment the wall fell or whether such a demarcation occurred before this. In August of that year, Germany had removed its physical border defenses with Austria. It could be argued that this was the moment that the symbolic "wall" had fallen and it predates the falling of the Berlin Wall by a good five months. Throughout this time, East Germans were flooding neighboring nations and the government was unable to prevent it or even react in a manner that is reflective of "hardline" Communist governments. The protesting spirit that had taken over Germany of that autumn had started to filter through other parts of the Eastern European political theatre. I think that exact dates are a challenge as this growth was organic and representative of pure life, difficult to pinpoint. Most scholars agree that within a year from the wall's falling, other European nations in the Iron Curtain began to assert their own freedom and self- rule.
