Can you tell me more about the theme of the story (like irony, metaphor, symbol and hyperbole)? (It'd be great if you can answer in plain English)

I believe the themes of the story are relatively simple, one of the major ones is the ability to appreciate and think carefully about life, the other is the desire for love and companionship.

The symbolism of the small house in the woods may very well be the simple and powerful nature of life away from the political and other considerations of the city.  The young man clearly has some understanding of those things and wants to impress the girl so she will remain with him in the woods and not return to the city.  There are a number of things that he shows to her that could also be pointed out as symbols for various things.

The other theme is that of trying to build a relationship on shared experience, however brief, but perhaps deeper than the superificial experiences one might have in the city of going to a play or a fancy restaurant.  Here they can examine the world and nature and appreciate together the quieter and perhaps more powerful things of life.
