Why would envy be one of the seven deadly sins?
Envy can be defined as wishing you had some trait or traits that you see in other people. You might wish that you were as rich as someone else or as smart or as good looking. Envy can be seen as a deadly sin because it denies the plan that God has for us. It shows us wanting to be someone that we are not. In addition, it is often aggressive. It often makes us wish that other people did not have what they have. In this way, we are trying to alter God's plan in one or two ways. We are trying to be something/someone that we are not and/or we are trying to prevent someone else from what God wants them to be.
