One major example of a conflict in the workplace that is difficult to resolve is one concerning gender roles. In a globalized environment, men who have been brought up to believe that women should not be in positions of authority must learn to work in a workplace in which women are their equals or superiors. SInce gender equality is enshrined as a fundamental human right in many countries, it i important that employers provide diversity training and counselling to enable men from such cultures to learn to adapt to working into an environment in which gender equality is standard. Female managers should also be sympathetic to men learning how to behave in this alien environment, by having discussions about authority issues in a manner that attempts to diffuse potential tensions and allow men to save face, while still maintaining clear lines of authority.
