Every country is governed by different laws. We can only do whatever we can as individuals. In some countries, cars are more efficient as are the fuels used. But, in some places people own five cars, and in others, a bicycle or nothing. Our carbon footprints vary by our wealth, status, and availability of items. Unfortunately, in highly industrialized countries people leave a much bigger carbon footprint than someone living in poverty, in a rural place in a developing country. The energy used to fuel our cars produces greenhouse gases. Until we come up with cheaper and better alternatives, these gases will continue to be added to the environment. We can only try to do what little we can as individuals and hope that the additive effect helps the environment.

There is no way we can stop the global warming completely. First we  should concentrate on the cause of global warming. There are two main causes they are Natural causes and man made causes.

We can reduce Man made cause but we cannot stop the natural causes for global warming...

Since there is drastic increase in global warming due to man made causes we should focus how to reduce them, however it is not possible to reduce it completely.

There is a threshold point for everything even for global warming...

global warming till a threshold point is harmless but beyond that it is harm full and also disaster, So accordingly we can do the need full thing to reduce global warming...

We can put more money into alternate clean energy technologies. We must develop solar energy, wind, running water and tidal energies. We also must do things like car pool, walk and bicycle instead of driving alone for everything. We can shut off electrical appliances when not in use, shut lights and basically try to be less wasteful.

I have to agree with wannam. I am positive that there are ways to slow global warming, but I cannot believe that we will ever be able to stop it. To me, global warming can be compared to the first squeeze of the brand new tube of toothpaste. If not careful, the toothpaste will shoot out uncontrollably. We simply cannot stop it completely. We can, though, try to limit the amount coming out by releasing our grasp. That said, have you ever tried getting expressed toothpaste back into the tube? Impossible!

I'm not sure that we can stop global warming completely but there is certainly plenty we can do to slow it down.  The things you mentioned like planting trees and reducing greenhouse gasses are a start.  I do think the government should and is taking a stand on this issue.  I doubt you will convince many people, especially in the US where things are so spread out, that they can walk instead of drive.  In my opinion, efforts would be better spent developing a vehicle that does not pollute and does not use fossil fuels.

The main thing that we need to do to combat global warming is recognize that it exists and how we contribute as people.  This is a political issue and a controversy because there are businesses and business leaders that do not want to change their practices because changing them will cost them money.

The ideas that you have are good ones.  I would say that we also need to, as much as possible, buy cars that use less gas.  We need to try to use less energy within our homes, perhaps by not using our air conditioning as much in the summer and not heating our homes as much in the winter.
