What are the symptoms of paraphilia?
The symptoms of paraphilia are quite basic, and extremely disturbing. They involve dreams or fantasies of deviant sexual behavior, involving animals, rape and other forms of violence, children, and all manner of nonconsensual sex. A desire to engage in sexual activity with young children, animals, inanimate objects, human corpses (necrophilia), or nonconsenting adults in general are all symptoms of paraphilia. More common among men than women, paraphilia also includes a desire to torment other people for purposes of sexual gratification through the use of electronic means of communication – in effect, obscene phone calls, emails, or twitters – as well as voyeurism and deliberately touching strangers in a seemingly innocuous but secretly sexual way.
