"The Lovely Bones" is the story of Susie Salmon, a fourteen year old girl who was raped and murdered. Susie narrates her own story from her perspective in heaven. The novel follows the effects of her murder as it moves through her family and her extended community, until at last her killer is captured and her family reaches peace with their untimely loss.
In "The Lovely Bones" the main character is telling the story in first person from beyond the grave. She spends the novel trying to contact her family to let them know where she is and what ha happened to her. At first, it is not clear where the main character is and what has happened to her. We gradually find out that she was raped and dismembered by a neighbor that is friendly with her family. All that she has become is a bunch of bones buried somewhere where her parents will probably never find her. She discusses things she is feeling and even has to deal with the neighbor(her killer and rapist) talk to her parents and actually sympathize with her parents that she is gone.
