The novel, Night by Elie Wiesel, is his book about the destruction of the Jews by the Nazis written twenty years after he was set free from Auschwitz at the age of 16. Night shows the Jews in his city being herded  into the ghetto where they can be controlled.  There is even one character who had been deported to a camp earlier who escapes and comes back to warn the Jews of Elie's  city that all the deportees were killed.  Of course, the news is so monstrous, so inhuman, that no one believes him. The book progresses with each step the Nazis took as shown by what happens to Elie and his family.  They are deported to a concentration camp from the ghetto, separated immediately, and Elie and his father begin the work required, all the while questioning why this is happening.  Elie, in particular, has lost his faith because of the evil surrounding him.  The book examines Elie and his loss of faith or belief in humanity which leaves him bereft of his God or religion. Through what happens to Elie, we can see all of the results of evil.
