Can anyone help me brainstorm some themes from the white bone?
I need to create a thesis and so far am not getting anywhere. If quotes could be provided to back up the themes, that would be great too. Thanks so much.

In the book The White Bone by Barbara Gowdy, the story is about the elephants' struggle to survive as told through the eyes of Mud, the young elephant. With so many books out now about how animals have feelings too, this idea as a theme fits right in as Mud certainly has feelings especially during pregnancy. I do think a better theme though is the idea of survival, and how the elephants working together or at least communicating with each other help the group survive. The book has also been described as a Watership Down book about elephants which would also allow a theme about how humans have impacted the survival of elephants. As we keep destroying habitat, drinking waterholes, and killing elephants for the ivory tusks, this theme should be easy to use in an essay using the examples in the book. I hope one of these three themes helps you either use one of them or help you find a theme related to these ideas.
