Essentialism is the view that for any entity, as in indigent colonized indigenous peoples, there is "a set of attributes" that identify and define the indigenous entity. Canada is seeking in a post-colonial era to redefine indigenous peoples in an essentialist way. Constructionalist indigeneity is the defined attributes that are imposed upon the indigenous peoples by colonizing or post-colonial externalities.
