Daniel Auteuil is sort of the George Clooney of France.  He's a 61 year old actor in that country's well known cinema genre, who has appeared in 91 different movie and television projects since 1974.  Like Claude Berri, he is not very well known outside of Europe, although that is rapidly changing.

Born in Algiers, France, back when Algeria was a French colony, he has won Cesar awards for Jean de Florette and The Girl on the Bridge, and has been nominated for ten other projects over the course of his career.  He is one of the best paid actors in France.
