Businesses use many different tools for employee development.
Employee training and development consists of many different modalities, from short in-house powerpoint presentations to paying for employees to return to school for advanced degrees. Some of the most common elements include tuition reimbursement, flextime to allow for employees to attend classes, in house training courses (whether developed by the organization or by outside consultants), and online or web-based training.
Several more informal methods are also very effective. Mentoring is an important part of training and development. Managers and human resources can plan an employee's project assignments as a form of development; for example, international assignments develop an employee's ability to view business from a global perspective.
