His simple answer is to build more schools.  But the underlying and more complex answer is the fact that you cannot combat extremism with more extremism.  If you decide that you are going to annhialite a group of people because they have different views than you, how are we then different from terrorists?  Particularly if we will resort to massive violence to accomplish that task?

Mortensen argues that by providing children with access to education and knowledge and a wider understanding of the world, it will be easier for them to reject extremist ways of thinking and living and it will be far more difficult for terrorist organizations to recruit and grow their organizations in these poorer regions of the world.

From his experience, these children are willing to sit outside in the snow to learn more and so providing them with a building and some books and some access to the world will do far more than blowing up more buildings and killing more "terrorists."
