In the book The Hiding Place there a few themes present in the book. The theme that you are referring to, responsibility, is present in the idea that Christians must stand up for what they believe in. Unfortunately, the Dutch did not stay true to thier country and turned their backs on them. Some even joined the German forces and attempted to help find Jews that were being hidden by Dutch citizens. Corrie Ten Boom and her family relied on the knowledge that they believed that God expected them to be responsible citizens. They knew that what the Germans were doing was completely wrong and against the rules of society. As a result, they took it upon themselves to try and save who they could. They took upon the responsibility of turning against what was truly wrong to do what was right even though they knew of the consequences if they were caught.
