"Literary element" does not refer to a specific topic or "thing" within a written work; instead, a literary element can be thought of as a technique or tool used by the author.
The Help uses the literary element or device of point of view very effectively, as the story is told from the viewpoints of Skeeter, Minnie, and Aibilene, with different aspects of the action and different people assuming more or less prominence depending upon the narrator.
The struggle for human rights and respect being undertaken by the black women of Jackson is presented as paralleling the national Civil Rights Movement being led by Medgar Evers, Martin Luther King, Jr. and others. Context is a literary element that creates deeper understanding of a story by presenting it in the light of other, related and supporting, details or events.
