IT's almost impossible to say what is and is not appropriate for other people. Some middle school students may be more mature than others. As a rule, I think its best to consider the themes of novels to see if its appropriate. A novel that might have violence in it, could be okay if the theme is against violence. Personally, i think that "Almost a woman" is great for middle school students because it is about growing up and adjusting, something that middle-schoolers are experiencing as well.
