Could you be more specific about author's style?  Are you referring to 3 types of literary techniques, or are you referring to 3 different styles of diction (gothic, romantic, etc.).

The following is both an example of metaphor and epithets.  A metaphor is a comparison; an epithet is a descriptive phrase:

They were going to look at war, the red animal--war, the blood-swollen god.

Calling war "the red animal" and a "blood-swollen" god is giving epithets to it.  Also, to comparison to animals and to a powerful god makes readers better  understand the nature and effects of war.

As a Naturalist who perceives an indifferent universe, Stephen Crane dispassionately and candidly reports the violence and chaos of battle, the brutish actions of man's inhumaity to his fellow man.  For instance, in Chapter Vii, Crane describes factually the dead Union soldier with ants crawling across his decaying face.

The style is an amazing blend of fact and fiction. Crane seems to enjoy writing fiction scattered with as many facts as he can manage and still keep the story interesting.
