In splitting logs with a hammer and wedge, is a heavy hammer more effective than a lighter hammer? Why?

Force is equal to mass times acceleration.  Heavy hammer=more mass.  More mass at same or about the same acceleration=more force, which is then means easier splitting. F=MA
