Mond differs from other characters in the novel in that he is the "God" figure. He is the only one in the World State who knows everything that is going on and why the State is organized the way it is. He pulls all the strings behind the scenes.

He is also one of the very few people in his culture who are acquainted with the forbidden texts that John the Savage knows quite well, such as the works of Shakespeare and the Bible. He also understands the nature of the old society the World State has supplanted.
