The biggest advantage of sexual reproduction versus asexual reproduction is genetic diversity.  When a single organism reproduces asexually it produces an exact copy of the parent organism.  There is no room for genetic change under this scenario.  As such, adaptation to changing conditions is very difficult and puts the species at greater risk for extinction.  When two organisms reproduce sexually, the offspring is a mixture of the two parent organisms.  In this way, there is lots of room for genetic combinations and variations and ultimately genetic diversity.  This allows a species to adapt over time to changing conditions to improve its chances for survival.
