WHAT DOESW THE LINES MEAN?

He gives the pods to his love.  He is taking them off the plant.  But first he wooed the plant (talked to it about his love).  I believe that you are confused because it says that he wooed the plant "instead of her."  But what that means in Shakespeare's language is that he wooed it in her name -- for her sake.

If I understand what you are asking, then the answer would be that he spoke of his love to the flowering plant, and then after doing so took blossoms of the plant and gave them to Jane. He admitted that this seemed odd, but love makes one do odd things.

Touchstone gives the pea pods to the person he is in love with. He acted as if the plant was "her." That line can be very confusing, and to this day, is interpreted several different ways.

I am really thankful for your answer but, I wish to have some more explanation.

DID TOUCHSTONE HIT THE STONE AS HIS RIVAL OR WAS IT HIS SWORD WHICH WAS HIS RIVAL AS HE STATES -I BROKE MY SWORD UPON A STONE.'
