Assuming ABCD=FGHJ, sides AD=FJ, therefore

`5b+4 = 3+8`

Therefore, `5b+4 = 11`

`5b = 7`

`b = 7/5`

Substitute, 7/5 in for b.

Both sides = 11

if ABCD = FGHJ

then AD = FJ

so set up the problem as

5b + 4 = 3 + 8

combine like terms

5b + 4 = 11

move the 4 to the other side by minusing it (this will cancel out the 4)

5b = 7

and divide by 52 to get b alone and you end up with

b = 7/5

to check substitute the b in the problem with 7/5

5(7/5) + 4 =11

7 + 4 =11

11 = 11
