7x-(2x-12)=-8

7x -2x +12 = -8

5x +12 = -8

5x +12 -12 = -8-12

5x = -20

5x/5 = -20/5

x = -4

7x - ( 2x - 12 ) = -8

First distribute the -1

By distributing, you should get

7x - 2x + 12 = -8 now, combine like terms ( 7x and -2x )

By combining like terms, you should get

5x + 12 = -8 now, subtract 12 on both sides

By subtracting,  you should get

5x = -20 divide 5 on both sides

X = -4 which is your answer

distribute the minus sign:

7x - 2x + 12 = -8

simplify:

5x + 12 = -8

subtract 12

5x = -8 - 12

5x = -20

divide by 5

x = -4

1. Distribute the -1 to the 2x- 12.

     7x-2x+12=-8

2. Combine the 7x and-2x. Get 5x.

     5x+12=-8

3. Move the +12 over to the other side   and get -12, then combine that with the -8.

    5x=-12-8

    5x= -20

4. You have to get x by itself so, divide the 5 by itself and -20.  The final answer is -4.

    5x/5= -20/5

    x=-4
