Writing a speech of two to four minutes, you will need to select a topic that can be explored or an idea that can be expressed in a short period of time. 

For the average reader, a single page of prose will take about five minutes to read (single-spaced). You can generally presume that every one hundred words will take a minute to read. 

With this in mind, one strategy to prepare for a speech of this length is to write a four paragraph essay with an introduction, conclusion and two body paragraphs. 

Persuasive essays work nicely in this format as one body paragraph can be used to explore "pros" and another to explore "cons".
