the slope (m) of the line that passes through the points `(x_1 , y_1) and (x_2 , y_2)` is   given as

`m = (y_2 - y_1)/(x_2 - x_1)`

so , now here

`(x_1 , y_1) = (a,2)`

`(x_2 , y_2) = (a, -2)`

so slope` m =(y_2 - y_1)/(x_2 - x_1)`

                 `=(-2-(2))/(a-a) = -4/0 = oo` is the slope

so slope is undefined and it is a vertical line
