Scout's teacher told the students all about Hitler and his cruel treatment of the Jews in Europe, explaining to them how awful it was, and how Jews deserved to be treated the same as all people, even mentioning that they contributed productively to every society they ever were part of. However, after Tom Robinson's trial, Scout overheard her teacher commenting to the effect that it was about time someone taught them (the blacks of the community) a lesson and put them back in their place.
