Required to find 0.04/5.

Solution:

0.04/5 is a rational fraction.

Numerator 0.04 = 4/100

Therefore  0.04/5 = (4/100) /5  = (4/100)*(1/5), as dividing by 5 is equivalent to multiplying by the fraction (1/5)

Therefore  0.04/5 = (4/100)(1/5) = 4/500 = 2*2/2*2*125 = 1/125.

Therefore 0.04/5 = 1/125 in the proper fraction form.

To find the value of 0.04/5 = 1/125 in decimal form:

1/125 =  0*1+0*(1/10)+0(1/100)+8/1000 =  8/1000,equivalent = 0.008 in decimal form.

To divide a number (dividend) by another number (divisor) greater than itself the best method is to multiply the original number by 10, and simultaneously place a decimal point in the quotient. If even after multiplication by 10 the dividend is smaller than divisor, again multiply it by 10 and in the quotient place a 0 after the decimal point. If the dividend is still smaller than divisor this process can be repeated till the dividend becomes greater than divisor.

In the given problem:

Dividend = 5

Divisor = 0.04.

As dividend is smaller than divisor, we multiply it by 10. This makes it equal to 0.4. Simultaneous the quotient becomes "0.". Any quotient obtained with these numbers should now be placed  after the decimal point following 0.

We see that 0.4 is also smaller than 5, there for we multiply divisor by 10 two time, and simultaneously placing two 0 after the decimal point in the quotient.

With this the dividend becomes equal to 40,and quotient becomes 0.00.

Dividing 40 by 5 we get quotient equal to 8. and there is no remainder. Adding this 8 t0 the next decimal place in the quotient we get 0.008.

As there is no remainder the division is complete. And the answer is 0.008

We'll change the decimal 0.04 to a fraction, 4/100.

We'll move the decimal point in 0.04, 2 places to the right and we'll transform the decimal number into a whole number, also, we'll move the decimal point in denominator, the same number of places:

0.04/1.0 = 0.4/10.0 = 4.0/100.0

Now, we'll divide both, numerator and denominator, by 4:

4/100 = 1/25

Now, we'll divide the ratio1/25 by 5:

(1/25)/5 = 1/25*5 = 1/125

Now, we'll divide 1:125

1 : 125 = 0.008

10

100

1000

The result of division:

0.04 : 5 = 0.008

We also can calculate in this way:

0.04 : 5

We'll move the decimal point in the dividend (0.04) 2 places to the right:

4 : 500

We'll write to the right the result of division of 4 and 500:

4:500 = 0

We'll place the decimal point after 0 result and we'll divide 40 by 500:

40 : 500 = 0.0

400: 500 = 0.00

4000:500 = 0.008

To divide the decimal number 0.04 by 5 first you can start with expressing the decimal as a whole number greater than the divisor and divided by the appropriate power of 10.

Here express 0.04 as 40/1000.

Now 0.04/5 = (40 / 1000) / 5 = ( 40 / 5) / 1000

Use long division to find ( 40 / 5). As 8*5 =40,  40/ 8 = 5

Now divide 5 by 1000.

For this, move the decimal point after 5, as many times as there are zeroes in 1000.

So you get 0.005

This is the result of 0.04/ 8
