It you were to direct a stage or film of the story , what special effects would you emply to help convey the narrator's growing madness? Would you choose to retain the first-person strucure of the original story ? explain Posted by kinkikidspen on Nov 19, 2008. |

It's tough to recreate first-person narration on-stage unless you have an on-stage narrator or voiceover technique. Otherwise, it would be lots of monologues...it is the best way to be accurate to the text, however, as well as adequately portray the growing madness of the main character. Maybe lighting could be used to help develop the madness...color and flashing frequency. However, you need to be careful with this as it may induce seizures in the audience. Music is also a good choice. Faster, more insistant or repetitive music would be great for this purpose.

One way I might do this is to pay close attention to the details in her "prison" room. As the play goes on, I would want to see that more of her belongings are scattered and thrown about, much like her sanity is in the story as it progresses. Posted by kwoo1213 on Nov 21, 2008. |
