    Heathcliff and Estaban Trueba have many traits in common.  Both are obsessive to an extreme.  Heathcliff is obsessive in his desire for revenge upon Hindly for his humiliation of him after the death of the elder Earnshaw.  Trueba is obsessive in his single minded pursuit of wealth and power and in his love for Clara.  Further both men have violent tempers and extravagant passions, as well as a cruel streak.  Heathcliff's passion shows in his love for Catherine while Trueba's passion also comes out in his need of prostitutes.  Both men also realize as they grow older, the emptiness of the lives they have chosen.
