Posted by luannw on Thursday December 20, 2007 at 4:42 PMWhen Heathcliff returns to Wuthering Heights, he takes advantage of Hindley. Hindley has become weak-willed due to his drinking. Heathcliff is determined to get revenge on both Hindley, for his treatment in the past of Heathcliff, and on Catherine, for marrying Edgar. Heathcliff has taken control of Hindley's son, Hareton, ceasing his schooling and teaching him coarse manners. Heathcliff also has managed to get Hindley in debt to him financially because Hindley constantly loses to Heathcliff in cards. Hindley deteriorates as a person as Heathcliff's plan for revenge takes shape.
