1.Edgar Linton is the husband of the elder Catherine while Heathcliff her companion from childhood is also her lover. In Ch.9, Catherine describes her love for Linton and Heathcliff thus "my love for Linton is like the foliage in the woods time will change it, I'm well aware, as winter changes the trees. My love for Heathcliff resembles the eternal rocks beneath; a source of little visible delight, but necessary." Thus both of them who are loved by Catherine are similar in that they both fulfill a vital emotional and psychological need for her.
2. In Ch.15, Catherine complains to Heathcliff "you and Edgar have broken my heart." Thus both of them are similar in that, according to Catherine's claim, they are responsible for her final illness which ultimately results in her death.
