While there are a number of conflicts in the story, there are two main conflicts that drive the plot.  One of the conflicts is an internal conflict; something that one single character fights within themselves.  There is also an external conflict, which is when an outside force is against the protagonist, or in this case, multiple protagonists.  The internal conflict exists between Meg and her fear and self-doubt.  She wishes to find her father and faces many difficult choices throughout the novel, including being the only one who can save Charles Wallace, and she has to learn to trust herself and have courage in order to find her father and free Charles Wallace from It's clutches.  The external conflict is the even power of darkness ("The Dark Thing"), that is manifested in the "character" of IT, that threatens the peaceful existence of the whole universe.  This threat is the conflict that Meg and the other children battle throughout the novel.
