    It is Southern in the cadences of the characters' speeches: "That would be acceptable," she said.

    It is Southern in the specific geographical references made, both by author and characters: " 'Well, Granny!' he laughed. "What are you doing there?"
    'Lying on my back like a June-bug waiting to be fumed over, mister,' she said, reaching up her hand.
    "
    It is Southern in the ease with which the characters accept division between races, and address Phoenix as " Aunt Phoenix" and "Grandma."
