In "A Worn Path", how can you prove that Phoenix was not crazy and that her grandchild was even alive?

well phoenix seems to me like if she was crazy or maybe she was senile she didn't know were she was going but somehow

she ended up where she needed to be .

    Phoenix Jackson is an old woman, but her name is Eudora Welty's clue to her character. The mythological phoenix was a bird that lived for five hundred years; then it  created a nest that it ignited and burned to death. From the ashes rose a new phoenix. The implication for Phoenix is that the journey she makes to town to obtain the medicine for her grandson is a rejuvenating one for her. She does it deliberately, knowingly, even though the trip is a difficult one for an old woman.
