Xochiquetzal
Xochiquetzal AmericaLiteral meaning: ‘most precious flower’. The Aztec goddess of the flowering and fruitful surface of the earth. Her association with the underworld was celebrated at festivals for the dead when she was offered marigolds. According to legend, Xochiquetzal graced the world with flowers and beauty during the reign of Quetzalcoatl, but after his departure from Tollan and the collapse of historic Toltec power she was less active and bounteous. The Aztecs looked upon her as giver of children.
