In Tongan legend, the son of the sun. A woman bore Sisimatailaa because she ‘used to go fishing very often and was in the habit of facing west and stopping with her back to the sun’. When the boy grew up he sailed to Samoa. There he fell in love, and so he returned to tell his parents about the impending marriage. His mother told him to climb a small hill and address the rising sun. This Sisimatailaa did, and received from his celestial father two packages; one he could open to obtain riches, the other he was to keep unopened. The wedding took place, after which Sisimatailaa suggested that they should sail to Tonga. On the voyage his bride importuned him to open the forbidden package too. Such a quantity of things came from it that the boat sank and the pair were drowned.
