Shen Nung
Shen Nung East AsiaTypically Chinese was the legendary ruler Shen Nung, who taught the art of agriculture and discovered the medicinal properties of plants. His own death was caused by a personal investigation of ‘intestine-breaking-grass’. It was believed that his transparent stomach provided the means by which the ancient Chinese learnt the secrets of health. In China cookery and medicine were intertwined from earliest times.
