Le-eyo

Le-eyo Africa
The great ancestor of the Maasai. One day Le-eyo learned that if a child should die, he was to say, when he discarded the body: ‘Man, die, and come back again; moon, die, and remain away.’ Now a child did die, and when he threw away the corpse he said instead: ‘Man, die, and remain away; moon, die, and return’. The next time a child died, his own in this case, he tried to use the correct charm, but found he had forfeited the chance of restoring the child to life by his action on the previous occasion. The moon, not man, has retained the power to come back again.
