Bishamon-tenno East AsiaOne of the celestial guardians of the world, he was successfully invoked by Prince Shotoku in 587 during the campaign against the anti-Buddhist clans of Japan. Bishamon-tenno appears in iconography as a powerful monarch, wearing armour and holding a lance.
