I am looking for information on the treatment of gender in "The Wives of the Dead" by Nathaniel Hawthorne.

I also need treatment of gender in "The Journey" by Edith Wharton, "A Clean Well Light Place" by Hemingway and "Are These Actual Miles?" by Raymond Carver.

    You would be best served by posting separate questions for each of the different stories.  In regards to the Hawthorne, consider first his choice to focus on the wives, and not the husbands.  Hawthorne makes a clear choice about the gender he is choosing to focus on, and the entire story can thus be seen as an examination of women.  For more detailed information, see the links printed below.
