In chapter 17 of "The Witch of Blackbird Pond" a group of villagers arrive at the cabin of Matthew Wood and accuse Hannah Tupper of being a witch.  The say it is her fault that the children have the fever.  It is here that the trouble begins for Kit.  She goes to the home of widow Tupper and helps her escape the angry mob.  The accusations continue through chapter's 17, 18, and in chapter 19 Kit is brought before the town to hear the charges.  On pages 188-189 the charges of being a witch are read to Kit.  (This is in my edition.  Your page numbers may be different.)

"Firstly that you were the familiar friend and companion of the Widow Hannah Tupper of Blackbird Pond, and alleged witch who within the past week disappeared in a suspicious manner.  Such a friendship is a lawful test of guilt, inasmuch as it is well known that witchcraft is an art that may be learned and conveyed from one person to another..."
